Around the world, people depend on line workers to keep the power on, no matter the circumstances. That’s why every April 18, we take the time to celebrate . From being fiercely dedicated to their careers to putting their lives on the line, there are so many reasons to take the time to recognize these hard working men and women.
Here are a few reasons why Klein thinks we should all take the time to .
1. Linemen Put their Lives on the Line
Lineman work is recognized within and, according to the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI), the Utility Industry recorded 2016’s of fatal electrical injury. Even with safety measures in place, line workers still face risks when working on or near high-voltages and at heights, putting their lives on the line for their communities.
2. Linemen are Dedicated to their Career and Education
All electricians complete years of classroom and on-the-job training before furthering their career. Although linemen learn the same ins and outs of electrical theory, there are specified apprentice and journeyman designations to learn how to climb poles safely and work with extremely high-voltages. Once completed, linemen continue to put these lessons to work with a fierce dedication to their careers.
3. Linemen Keep the Power On in Rain or Shine
Despite adverse weather conditions, linemen remain steadfastly committed to keeping the power on, including making repairs in the middle of hurricanes or turning lights back on during snow storms and so much more. In times of crisis, severe weather or natural disasters, communities turn to line workers to help restore order, re-powering homes, businesses and everything in between.
4. Linemen Demonstrate an Undeniable Strength
On top of working through extreme weather conditions, linemen spend long hours hauling heavy gear and pulling thick cable and wire. It’s for this reason that the U.K. deemed tradespeople the healthiest, , even more so than fitness instructors. All linemen possess a strength, both mental and physical, that is necessary to be successful in the industry.
5. Linemen Perfect Their Skills and Celebrate Them Together
Every year, the best linemen from around the world compete in job-related events at the International Lineman’s Rodeo. Since 1984, the Lineman’s Rodeo has been an outlet for the public to recognize the technical craft skills and safety knowledge of tradespeople. At the end of the day, over 300 teams come together, celebrating the accomplishments and skills of apprentices and Journeymen alike.
6. Linemen Take Jobsite Safety Seriously
Practicing safety is always a priority, especially for linemen who are working near such high-voltages. Efficiency is a priority in many professional careers, but cutting corners in this industry can be disastrous. Responsibility lies in not only looking out for themselves but also for their brothers and sisters in the field and the community at large – there’s clearly no room for error.
7. Linemen are Loyally Devoted to their Families and Communities
Though faced with demanding work and long hours spent away from home, linemen are just as devoted to their families and communities as they are to their careers. It’s not always easy, but looking back at the end of each day with pride makes it all worth it. Experienced professionals also have the unique opportunity to give back by supporting future generations through mentorship.
All of this and so much more is why 7MÊÓƵ takes the time to recognize the hardworking, dedicated linemen that keep the power on. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for putting it all on the line.
